Wheat Variety Trials

As a service to the Michigan wheat industry, the MSU Wheat Breeding and Genetics program conducts statewide testing on material submitted by public and private entities in the region. Each line is tested in multiple locations across the state of Michigan. In addition, the top 25% of the MSU experimental lines from advanced yield trials are entered, giving producers the chance to see our material evaluated. Data is collected on flowering date, plant height, yield, test weight, and disease resistance. Furthermore, all entries are subjected to at least one location under intensive management as well as a replication at our misted Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) nursery where incidence, severity, and DON levels are reported.
